Rising Damp

Rising Damp is a Yorkshire sitcom broadcast from 1974 to 1978. Starring Leonard Rossiter, Frances de la Tour, Richard Beckinsale and Don Warrington.

Rupert Rigsby (Leonard Rossiter) plays the character of a landlord to a run down victorian town house. Rigsby rented out his rather shabby bedsits to a variety of tenants. Frances de la Tour plays the character of Ruth 'Miss' Jones, a whimsical spinster and college administrator who rents one of the rooms in rigsby's town house.

Rigsby.

Rupert Rigsby is tight-fisted landlord, who is suspicious of anything unknown especially Philip, one of his tenants. Philip is black, sophisticated and smart. Rigsby isn't racist but is still very suspicious about Philip cos of his culture and intelligence. (Something Rigsby aspires to)

Rigsby is abit of a snob obsessively pre-occupied with being middle class! Rigsby is a seedy man with romantic interest in Miss Jones.

Rigsby has a cat called Vienna.

Miss Jones.

Miss Jones is an educated college administrator spinster, who craves male attention. But the unfortunately, the only male attention she seems to get is from Rigsby. (Much to Miss Jones annoyance) She fancies Philip and regularly cooks for him. (Much to Rigsby's annoyance)

Philip.

Philip is a second generation african immigrant from Croydon. He is a very intelligent educated man who claims to be the son of a tribal king.

Alan.

Alan Moore is a medical student who has very little luck with girlfriends but seems content with his life. Alan is middle-class and appreciates art and music.
